ACT Triathlon Annual Awards Night 2023-24

The ACT Triathlon Annual Awards Night was a remarkable celebration of dedication, perseverance, and community spirit within our triathlon community. Held at Lucky’s Speakeasy, QT Canberra, the event honoured athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers who have excelled throughout the season. We were privileged to have special guest Tim Harradine, CEO of AUS Triathlon, join us to present some of the awards. The night was a testament to the unity and commitment that define our sport.

Interclub Champions

Females in Training: The Females in Training (FIT) club had an outstanding season, securing the Interclub Champion award. Their dedication to training, racing, and supporting each other culminated in this well-deserved recognition. Despite facing stiff competition, FIT’s commitment and teamwork were key to their success. Previous winners, JT Multisport expressed their determination to reclaim the title next year, promising an exciting season ahead.

Special Awards

Most Valuable Triathlete: Margi Grant, David Peedom

This award recognises the top male and female athletes who accumulated the most overall points throughout the season, showcasing their consistency and excellence in performance.

Age Group Athlete of the Year: Ash Lawson

Ash’s rapid development this year saw her win an Age Group World Championship silver medal in Pontevedra, Spain, and secure several wins and top finishes at national events. Her dedication and hard work have set her apart as an outstanding athlete.

Rad Leovic Award for Senior Contributor to Triathlon: Petra Lean

Petra’s dedication as both a competitor and volunteer exemplifies the spirit of lifelong athleticism and community support. Her journey from overcoming her fear of water to competing in the world championships in Hamburg is truly inspiring.

Volunteer of the Year: Celine Payet

Celine’s vital role in FIT and her consistent volunteering at ACT Triathlon events highlight her dedication and the spirit of volunteering. Her enthusiasm and energy have significantly contributed to the success of many events.

Novice of the Year: David Binstock & Cristal Jones

David transformed from a novice to an accomplished triathlete, while Cristal gained confidence and strength through the FIT novice program. Their journeys reflect the spirit of growth and personal achievement that defines the novice experience.

Club Coach of the Year: Prue Guest

Prue’s commitment to developing swimmers and her athletes’ significant achievements underscore her impact as a coach. Her dedication to promoting healthy lifestyles and enhancing athletic abilities has made a lasting impact on the community.

Endurance Spirit Award: Caitlin Davis

Caitlin’s perseverance and excellence in endurance events, despite personal challenges, inspire others. Her achievements in long-distance multisport events showcase her determination and dedication.

Multisport Rising Star: Lara Dawson

Lara’s quick success and marked improvement in multisport events highlight her potential and dedication. Her impressive performances have set her on a path to continued success in the sport.

Spirit of ACT Triathlon: Mary Sietsma

Mary embodies fair play, respect, and camaraderie within the triathlon community. Her contributions as an athlete, official, and board member make her an inspiring figure and a deserving recipient of this award.

Para-Triathlete of the Year: Sam Harding

Sam’s achievements in paratriathlon and his journey towards Paralympic qualification highlight his exceptional performance and dedication. His successes on the international stage are a testament to his hard work and talent.

Technical Official of the Year (Posthumous): Thomas Pearce

Thomas Pearce, a beloved member of the Bilbys community, was a dedicated competitor and technical official. His contributions to the sport and his sunny disposition are fondly remembered. We honour his memory with this award.

Athlete’s Athlete: Stuart Gordon (JT Multisport)

The Athlete’s Athlete Award recognises an individual who embodies the true spirit of triathlon through exemplary conduct, dedication to sportsmanship, and commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive triathlon community. Stuart Gordon from JT Multisport has demonstrated these qualities through his consistent participation and support at every ACT Triathlon event, making him a deserving recipient.
