Challenge Canberra is back for 2024

Australia’s capital city is home to the country’s newest international middle distance triathlon with Challenge Family’s announcement today of Challenge Canberra, taking place on 16-17 November 2024.

Long synonymous with triathlon, Canberra has become a preferred training destination for many with its extensive network of bike paths and running trails. Sport and recreation combine with national museums and galleries, global cuisine and vineyards, Australian landmarks and Ngunnawal cultural sites, all just a stone’s throw from natural bushland offering the ultimate in work-life balance. Just three hours’ drive from Sydney and an international airport only 6km from the CBD make it easy to reach for a weekend of world-class triathlon.

Challenge Canberra! Challenge 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run! This spectacular race will be held over two days, Saturday 16 November and Sunday 17 November 2024! This year Challenge Canberra will host one of the World Qualifying Events for selection at the World Age Group Triathlon Championships in Wollongong 2025. Qualifying races will be the Olympic (Standard) Distance Triathlon and the Olympic (Standard) Distance Aquabike.  This years event will also include the Super Sprint for first timers so something for everyone.

The flagship event at Challenge Canberra is the middle distance race and the course is one of the most exciting courses in Australia with iconic landmarks and a scenic course that starts in the central basin of Lake Burley Griffin, a swim course that allows for all those supporters to watch every stroke you do from start to finish.

The bike course is a magnificent and challenging out and back closed course. Hot mix will help with the fast times as you make your way up the Tuggeranong Parkway three times. A gradual climb up with a super fast return. Feel free to take in the scenery.

From there as you head out onto the new three lap 7km run along the Lake Burley Griffin foreshore but before you enjoy this you get to run through the beautiful Commonwealth Park as the run route takes you around the Nerang Pond and out onto the foreshore, across Commonwealth Bridge with views of Australia’s Parliament House right in front of you. You then get to run around the beautiful Lennox Gardens before you make your way back to the race venue. The very fast and flat course will see some superfast run splits, with plenty of people cheering you on to the finish line on Rond Terrace.

If you don’t want to take on the challenge alone, there’s no need to worry because the team relay option is available. You and your club mates or friends can participate in the middle distance race together, making for a great morning spent with like-minded people who share your passion for this amazing sport. Whether you choose to form a team of two or three members, you can join in and take part in this iconic race.

Challenge Canberra will take place on 16-17 November 2024 in a weekend of triathlon including shorter distances and junior events as well as the flagship middle distance race. For further information and entries, visit www.challenge-canberra.com.
