Race Description

The Jackie Fairweather Memorial Triathlon offers three distinct race categories. The Sprint Triathlon consists of a 750m swim, a 20km bike ride, and a 5km run. The Super Sprint Triathlon has participants swimming 250m, biking 10km, and running 2.5km. Meanwhile, the Aquabike category involves a 750m swim followed by a 20km bike ride, but no running.

For the start swimming leg, everyone begins in the shallow water. Super Sprint participants will swim towards a buoy 125m away, circle it, and then head back to the shore. Those in the Sprint and Aquabike categories will navigate a slightly longer course, moving past more buoys to complete a 750m distance. After swimming, participants make their way to the transition area to grab their bikes.

Once on their bikes, racers will head out of Black Mountain Peninsula, turning left onto Lady Denman Drive. Super Sprint bikers will make a turn at the rowing ramp car park, while Sprint and Aquabike participants will continue further to the cultural center car park before making their turn. Everyone will then ride towards the city along Lady Denman Drive. A U-turn awaits all at the parkway exit ramp, leading them back west towards Black Mountain Peninsula. As they cycle south to a point on the peninsula, a roundabout guides them northward again. Passing an entry road will mark the completion of one lap. Super Sprinters will complete two such laps, totalling 10km, while Sprint and Aquabike participants will do three laps, totalling 20km. After their respective distances, bikers return to the transition area to either start their run or, for Aquabike participants, finish their race.

The running segment sees Aquabike racers finishing their race without a run. However, Super Sprint participants will follow a footpath loop around the base of the peninsula, running north to an entry point and then making a U-turn to come back. After a total of 2.5km, they’ll cross the finish line. Sprint racers will take on this path twice, completing a total of 5km before their triumphant finish.
